if its jfs, why could I decrease it?
am I wrong that you cannot decrease jfs but only jfs2?
somehow the real question is: how to check if a fs is jfs or jfs2
jfs2 has automatic inode increase, I will create more and more files in a dir to see what happens
but I dont know when jfs2 really increases the number of inodes... at 99%?

From the looks of this output, something has gone through and messed up you system.
Hd8 is listed as a jfs, but is being used as a log. My guess is it is really a
jfslog, not a jfs2log and any/all filesystems using it as a log are really jfs, not jfs2.
Try doing od -c /dev/hd8 - the first few lines should tell you what it thinks it is I think.

Holger, could you send these outputs just to see clear?
oslevel -r
mount (just for rootvg's filesystems)
lsvg -l rootvg
Thanks,
Gergely Foti
