I don't quite understand that either. I'm a Jr. Oracle dba myself. I've done some small RAC implementations
before, and I've always gotten by with AIX RAW LV's just fine. I really don't understand the logic and/or
reasoning here? Let's get that DBA on this list. I think we would all like to speak to this individual lol.

Everything I know about AIX tells me that we should
create an LV on each disk that spans the entire disk
and he should access the raw disk. DBA claims that
Oracle recommends against it.

I'd ask Oracle the reasons why they don't want the LVs, and ask them also
about the downside of using them (maybe RAC can't deal with the LVM ?).
Managing rawdata directly on the hdisk sounds like a management nightmare,
so
I'd really question what I'd lose by not doing it (.5 % performance ?).
