Paging space utilized... Why?

My box has a lot of memory still free. However, I have a lot of paging space
used, which appears to be my Oracle sga area. My question is why is any
computation space (shared memory, text, etc...) being pushed to paging space at
all? As far as I can tell, I do not have some kind of momentary memory spike (I
have monitored with topas and can see pgspout while still having lots of memory)
that would cause it. Any insight as to what might be causing it?
