Damaged hd5

One of my servers (AIX 5.2 ML07) had a disk problem. I've got a couple of
block-relocation and related errors.
Unfortunately, rootvg wasn't mirrored as in the past there wasn't enough
disk space. However, there have been some changes and with a bit of
shuffling around I was able to free up a suitable disk and ran a mirrorvg.
Alas! It failed! All the LVs were created but hd5 and hd6 could not be
synchronised - presumably because they're on damaged portions of the disk.
I think I can deal with hd6 by doing a swapoff then deleting it and
re-creating it. But how do I deal with hd5?
Can I delete the LV then re-create it? If so, how? I'm sure I've done this
in the past - re-create a missing boot LV, anyway - but can't remember how
at the moment. I'm hoping you might be able to save me some time!
Thanks,
