I am currently using a similar setup; the central Nagios server is on
Redhat Linux, and it is using nrpe on AIX 4.2, AIX 4.3, and AIX 5.x. I
compiled nrpe for each of the OS levels, and it's working fine.
That is good to hear, I was starting to wonder if it was possible.
Did you start nrpe on the AIX side with or without the -n flag?
I've tried both.
Another thing to check is if the remote nrpe is outputting anything
extra to STDOUT or STDERR. According to
http://www.nagiosexchange.org/nagiosplug-help.32.0.html?&tx_maillisttofa
q_pi1%5Bmode%5D=1&tx_maillisttofaq_pi1%5BshowUid%5D=9320 this caused a
problem similar to yours.
I tried checking this, and I don't believe it is, though I'm not entirely certain how to tell. Nothing is showing up in the console log or in /var/log/debug.log on the AIX machine. In the Redhat machine, I don't see anything in the /var/log/nagios directory or in /var/log/messages.
I have on Redhat, the user/group set as nagios/nagios and on AIX as daemon/uofa since the password list on the AIX machines is automatically generated and I didn't want to go to the trouble of getting a new ID and group set up. Is there anyway this could matter?
Would it be easy for you to send me your binaries for the Red Hat/AIX pair you are using?
