this seems more like a network problem than a system
one, are you sure no one else is trying to use the
same ip address as the HMC one. Can u ping the box and
check if dups come back?

What would happen if you open a session and leave it
open, would it die? stay alive?

Another possible but unlikely situation is that the
HMC is so busy it stops responding at times.

Also, a friend of mine used to ran into problems
thanks to his firewall vendor that instead of selling
them the unlimited IP address version sold them the 50
ip one, could this be the case??
