Re: Installing AIX OS on SAN disks?

We've looked into this a couple times and have decided not to. The
reasons always come back to the idea that the OS being on the SAN would
make it difficult to trouble shoot hba/fiber/switch problems. We use
local disks for the OS, including at least one swap disk, and put data
on the SAN disks.

We recently migrated from an EMC Symmetrix to an EMC Clariion. If
anyone interested in our experience with that migration, email me.

Subject: Installing AIX OS on SAN disks?

Hello all,

I received some documentation from one of the IBM Global Services
Specialist on how to install AIX on a SAN storage disk. According to
the documentation I have, you can install a couple different ways. I
found some more documentation on the Dell/EMC site and this seems to be
a little older than the one I received from IBM. Again, a few different
ways that I can go about the install. I was hoping to find someone that
has had a successful install of the OS and maybe point me to some more
documentation on this subject. I have a call logged with support, as I
had some general questions, but I was told they would have to call me
back.
Any advice, or problems you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Configuration:
Dell CX600 CLARIION..
IBM p570 AIX 5.3 TL04
EMC PowerPath 4.5.2 Navisphere 6.19

Thanks in advance,
John
