Re: Installing AIX OS on SAN disks?

Hello all,

I received some documentation from one of the IBM
Global Services
Specialist on how to install AIX on a SAN storage
disk. According to the
documentation I have, you can install a couple
different ways. I found
some more documentation on the Dell/EMC site and
this seems to be a little
older than the one I received from IBM. Again, a
few different ways that I
can go about the install. I was hoping to find
someone that has had a
successful install of the OS and maybe point me to
some more documentation
on this subject. I have a call logged with support,
as I had some general
questions, but I was told they would have to call me
back.
Any advice, or problems you can share would be
greatly appreciated.

Our shop uses all kinds of pSeries boxes as well as
storage devices going from SSA to the Ds8100, my
teammates and I have been pushing for rootvg's being
on a SAN Lun, it would make migrating servers from one
box to another so much faster, not to mention the
advantages it would bring for DR purposes. but for
some reason or another this has been a no-go land.

now, thanks to the bunch of fractional CPU
requirements we're getting from the different
deparments (they get to pay for the resouces allocated
to them) we need to go VIO, using SAN disks for all
storage requirements.

right now, it is pretty cool, because you only have to
create the LUN, flash copy the std image and boom!, a
new machine is born.

let's see how it goes as time goes by.
