I connect my laptop to serial all the time with a couple systems I have.
It's just a regular serial cable connected from the back of your laptop
to the serial connection on the system.. I found that using
hyperterminal works well. The settings that work for me include setting
Hyperterminal to VT100 and exporting your display once logged into the
system to VT320. This allows Smitty to run with no funny stuff on the
screen.

To All:

I first want to say thank you for those who suggested using a laptop as
the console to our old RS6000 (F50 and P630). We want to move forward
with that idea. Do you know what type of serial cable to use to connect
to the RS6000s?? We have tried null modem and a few others on hand.
What configuration do we use? Or do you have one that would work from
the PC serial port to the RS6000 serial port?

Thanks again!
