Not so much booting; but they do show up in the list of available disks.
I just tested this with an older H70 and could use the installation to
install across them and erase them. This is on D40 drawers. I will try
some 020 drawers on another server later...

This may be possible on my p660, but SSA-booting is not possible on the
H50.

May be out in left field; but can you boot up with media and install AIX
on the SSA disks ? I have not tried this here; but I will be doing some
SSA wipes tomorrow. If you can install AIX, one of the options is to
erase the disk with the multitude of overwrites... I will check myself
tomorrow.

When I spoke w/ my IBM AIX-TopGun, he said that he didn't believe that
the SSA-Format included this option. It will format, but not in the
DOD-wipe manner.
SSA drives were
withdrawn prior to the release of this feature.
I opened a ticket w/ IBM AIX Support on this and haven't heard back,
yet.
This server (H50) has only 6-4GB and 6-9GB SSA drives to be cleared, but
I have another server (p660) that has four drawers of SSA drives.
(Both servers contain confidential patient data.)
I have to find a way to "wipe" them and be confident of the process,
short of using a plasma-cutter...

You can format SSA under diags, just go to Task Selection / SSA Service
Aids.
Also, we format then build new arrays on top of them to help ensure they
are wiped.

Subject: DOD Disk wiping on AIX & SSA drives...?
Hi all,
I've been searching for options for DOD-Wiping of SSA drives via AIX...
I've found several related threads on the list archive,
(http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/AIX-L/2005-09/0097.html)
but the "diag -T format" option doesn't work w/ SSA drives and the
"scrub" program doesn't seem to work either.
How about this option?
"cat /dev/urandom > /dev/hdisk1; cat /dev/urandom > /dev/hdisk1; cat
/dev/zero > /dev/hdisk1"
Anyone have any other suggestions?
Regards,
Troy
