Re: Slow login using dtterm

That was my first thought. However, the name resolution is the same on the
other server. It's set to "local, bind", although my PC isn't in /etc/hosts
so it's reliant on DNS for that. Just doing a host/nslookup from the
command line is fine: no significant delay.

And as I said, normal telnet works fine: it's when I actually open up a
dtterm that the delay occurs, so I think that's where the problem lies. I
also tried it with aixterm, and that worked fine: opened up in just a couple
of seconds.

That makes me think you have a resolv problem; classic dte issue.

Check your /etc/hosts table for the correct entry,
and your /etc/resolv.conf file.

Do you want to resolv, "local,bind4"; look at /etc/hosts first or to the
the dns first?

Subject: Slow login using dtterm

I have an F80 running 5.2. I usually connect to it from my PC using
Exceed
to open up a dtterm session.

Just recently it's started to take a very long time to connect. I enter
my
login details and they get accepted but then it's a couple of minutes
until
the dtterm window opens on my PC.

I have an identical machine, sitting just a meter or two away from it
which
doesn't have this problem.

The system doesn't seem to be especially busy. Tracroute is identical
for
the two machines. Ping response times are similar. Name resolution is
configured similarly and is working correctly.

A simple telnet doesn't have the same problem. If I try to open another
dtterm from the command line, having already logged in this takes ages,
too.

Where might I find the problem? Any logs which might be useful?
