Re: NIS & yppasswd

Sabastien,

What happens if they just use "passwd" on the clients to change their YP
password?

I am assuming they are NOT defined in the local "/etc/passwd" file.

Also, Can we assume that if the user goes on the AIX NIS master server,
they can change their passwd and use the new one on the Linux clients?

Do you have any AIX slaves or clients that you can test the yppasswd on?

- Chris

Yes, running

root 13420 11422 0 Jan 01 - 0:00
/usr/lib/netsvc/yp/rpc.yppasswdd /etc/passwd -m

Is rpc.yppasswdd running on the NIS master? On AIX it seems to be started
from /etc/rc.nfs (At least on AIX 4.3.3).

To check type:
ps -ef|grep netsvc/yp

Subject: NIS & yppasswd

Hi AIXers,

I'm having a strange problem. We have an AIX 5.3 server acting as a NIS
server, and we have a bunch of Linux Mandrake server using NIS as a client
for authentification. The problem we have is if a user try to do a
yppasswd to change the password, yppasswd say:

Error while changing the NIS password.
The NIS password has not been changed on Hesperus.

Just after the "Please retype new password:" And the password is of
course not changed and still using the old one. With this problem we are
unable to change password from a NIS client machine!

Anyone have an idea about that?

Thanks
