RMC is also used by the HMC. RMC is required for DLPAR operations to be
successful.

Yep I have them and for the record this is not an HA server.
I have a couple of other servers running rmc so I'll poke around some
more although
after reading a little about it me thinks I maybe don't need it if I'm
not in a cluster?

Are there entries in /etc/services for the RMC daemon?
These are the entries I have:
rmc 657/tcp
rmc 657/udp
I seem to recall that there are HACMP services that don't start unless
the entry is in /etc/services...

- per some online tips I'm trying to figure out what is using port 657
but neither the
netstat or lsof commands tell me anything
14:ROOT > netstat -an | grep 657
udp4 0 0 *.36574 *.*
14:ROOT > lsof -i:657
- this is me trying to shutdown some possible conflicting daemons
and then trying to start ctrmc again but it won't restart
14:ROOT > stopsrc -s rpc.statd
0513-044 The rpc.statd Subsystem was requested to stop.
14:ROOT > startsrc -s ctrmc
0513-059 The ctrmc Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 71262.
14:ROOT > lssrc -s ctrmc
Subsystem Group PID Status
ctrmc rsct inoperative
14:ROOT > netstat -an | grep 657
udp4 0 0 *.36574 *.*
14:ROOT > stopsrc -s rpc.mountd
0513-044 The rpc.mountd Subsystem was requested to stop.
14:ROOT > startsrc -s ctrmc
0513-059 The ctrmc Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 6786.
14:ROOT > netstat -an | grep 657
udp4 0 0 *.36574 *.*
14:ROOT > lssrc -s ctrmc
Subsystem Group PID Status
ctrmc rsct inoperative
So far nothing has fixed it so just wondering if anybody had any
suggestions.
