I came across this during my internet travels but have never personally
tried it:
1. copy the /etc/qconfig file (make sure a backup is available)
2. Copy the following files:
/var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/custom/*
/var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/dev/*
/var/spool/lpd/pio/@local/ddi/*
3. Copy any print device IP addresses that are defined in the /etc/hosts
4. change the permission on the copied files to 664
chmod 664 <filename>
5. digest the queues
enq -d
6. run the chvirprt command on each queue
chvirprt -q <queue name> -d <device name>
7. cycle the printer subsystem
stopsrc -cg spooler
startsrc -g spooler

Copying print queue configuration between hosts.
Fellow AIX meisters,
Is it enough to copy the /etc/qconfig file from one AIX 5.X host into
other server to duplicate print queue configuration, preserving all
settings and user privileges, or do we need some other action (e.g.
modifying the ODM)?
We tried to copy /etc/qconfig from one host to another but none of our
queues worked with the new server, even restarting the spooler subsystem
group (startsrc -g spooler).
TIA,
Marlon Borba, CISSP
