External DNS server addresses with the domain they serve are in /etc/resolv.conf
/etc/netsvc.conf is used anyway, if it exists.

I do apologize for some of the basic questions I’m asking, but coming from a Linux background AIX is a completely new world. I do appreciate the time everyone is taking and the guidance that is being offered. None of it is taken for granted and all of it is greatly appreciated.

Specify the order in /etc/netsvc.conf

ie: first try dns then the local hosts file to resolv

hosts=bind,local
