also, clear "headers" using dd

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hdiskX bs=10240 count=25000

*Subject:* Removal of PVID's

Admins,

I have some new Oracle ASM (10g) instances running on a new system (P595).
The disk was SVC allocated brand new so the ASM allocated hdisks had a
'None' PVID assigned to them. This all works fine. It seems, according to
Oracle, that if ASM tries to acquire a disk with a previous PVID it will
corrupt the database instance. I personally find this odd because obviously
you need to extend your databases from time to time and not many people have
brand new disk just hanging around waiting to be used for ASM. I guess my
question is, how do I clear the PVID off of the used PV's before I give them
to Oracle and ASM?

Thanks in advance,

Darryl
