This was added to AIX 4.3.3 in ML 8 as Network Interface Backup.
In AIX 5.3, it is called Etherchannel.

Subject: Network Multipathing Question
Hello AIXers,
I am trying to get a quick information on whether any has ever configured a sort
of MPIO on a network level on AIX 5.3 without the use of HACMP.
Let me explain on how this should work. A server would have 2-ethernet cards,
the first one is the primary with an IP address ( let's say 192.168.0.5). The
second card would be on standby. When the switch (or the NIC card itself) goes
down, then AIX would automatically bring-up the second card using the IP address
of the primary card (192.168.0.5) and when the switch on the primary ethernet
card is fixed, I would decide whether to switch back or not. Or do I have to
write scripts to implement this solution?
