Re: bootp server for aix sysback

We may need to know what errors you are getting. Mksysb will create a
map file of currently found files on your system then will proceed to
backup those files listed. You can get normal operational errors when
creating a mksysb because of the transient nature of some files.

I don't think you can restore from a TSM server if booted from media.
But the doc is very unclear. I have DVD, but I can't make it work AT
ALL.....

What blank media do you need for a 51A DVD?

I've tried making a mksysb to DVD, but it needs a disk work area that
isn't in rootvg and that is the only vg.

Why do you need a bootp server. IIRC, sysback can create boot media on
CD or tape or even (horrors!) floppy. I would look into that.

I use Tivoli sysback with tsm to take "bare metal" restores. I'm
trying to setup a D/R site, but it takes 2 systems, one to be the bootp

windows, not my box anyway).

Could I setup a bootp server on something other than a AIX system? I
could take the tftp image from my production server and copy /usr to a
linux or solaris system. I think I can export something other than that
systems /usr to appear as /usr to the client, not sure about that
either.

Is this worth a try or is there a flaw somewhere? I hate to have to
get another system to set idle in the D/R site. I can use my D/R AIX as
a test box, then quickly restore via TSM in a DR situation.

Thanks
