Re: AIX 4.3.3 / Failed hdisk3 / Replacement

I use the command:
fuser -cux /path/to/filesystem

to get a list of what is holding it open. The -cux options cover most
of the processes that cause it not to unmount, but there are a few other
process types that are listed in the man page for fuser.

If that don't work I try lsof, but that is a third party utility.

Also the command to remove a device is "rmdev" not "remdev"

Hi Mark,

Make sure nothing is using the mount fs. No routine, processes. And
make sure you are not under the path of that fs as it will not unmount.

Subject: AIX 4.3.3 / Failed hdisk3 / Replacement

To All,

I have a 7025-F50 that has a failed/failing SCSI drive. It is clicking
and putting tons of disk errors into the logs. This is a stand-alone
disk with archived data on it. It is listed as lv05 hdisk5. It has one
volume group on it with one file system.

I could use some help on the proper way to remove the drive and any
associated "stuff" with it so that I can replace it.

I figure I need to unmount the filesystem, delete the file system,
delete the volume group and then do an remdev on hdisk3? Then pull the
drive. Then replace the drive with a new one and add all of the above
back in.

I cant get the filesystem to unmount. I get this error:

umount: 0506-349 Cannot unmount /dev/lv05: The requested resource is
busy

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Mark
