That's already the case for HEAD. I have no opinion on 4-STABLE and
5-STABLE. The only problem might be that while disk space is cheap,
the root partition is often fairly small and of course fixed in size
and un-growable. 256MB might get really tight if you start installing
multiple debug kernels. Also, 4.x uses 128MB for root, IIRC, which
leaves even less wiggle room. It's fine to mandate that the root
partitions shall be bigger in the future to accomodate this, but for
those that are doing source upgrades from older systems, they might
be in for a shock when 1/3 of their root partition gets consumed by a
kernel.
