One question, though: one machine has a serial port capable BIOS. If

I think the real question is: if I use the serial port for the BIOS,
will it be available as a port in FreeBSD?

What does it mean when you say "the serial port for the BIOS"?

To give an answer to an imagined question:
You can use the same serial port as both a console and a debug port.
