k, not sure what maildir is, but we run cyrus-imapd over here, which does
one file per mail message, and have 60 jail'd environments running on a
machine, each with their own mail spools, and each running an average of 2
domains per, with whatever mailboxes each they've decided to create ...
and inodes are looking like the following right now:
