5.x? you got to run 6.x, 5.x is buggy and will not run stable! At this point, it
doesn't make sense to get old 6013P8+ SCSI is still way to go if you need
high IO You can't go wrong with 15k SCSI Go to pricewatch.com, find
cheapest supermicro resellers and call them. Don't ask them FreeBSD
questions. Tell them which server you want, if they have it in stock and
can overnight, that's all there is to it. Only FreeBSD specific vendors can
answer FreeBSD compatibility questions, hope you realize this.
All supermicro servers will run FreeBSD just fine.
Server down? where is your spare? you're the only one to blame.

Well, I have contacted 6 of the people on the list so far.
I guess I'll have to expand the search.
I did look at Supermicro, and I think the closest I
might get is the 6013P-8+ ... No redundant power but I'll live.
Am I stupid to hold out for plain old Xeon? Am I being too "old
school" trying to stay with SCSI?
One thing I run into is that I want 2 different SCSI
controllers/channels. One needs to run 4 internal drives in either
RAID-10 or RAID-5, and another (PCI card) has to run an external
RAID box via plain old SCSI.
The other issue is I run into people who are just order
takers, and trying to get a tech is close to impossible.
As you can see, I'm incredibly frustrated. I'm a server
down right now, all I want is someone to say "Sure, thats not a
problem, it'll ship tonite" and when I get it its what I need
and won't have any glitches running FreeBSD 5.X

You're contacting wrong people, I never had an issue like the one you
describe. There is a list of FreeBSD vendors on freebsd.org you can
contact I had decent experience with supermicro servers. Check their
website. Dell and HP servers work fine, too. All have the type of server
you describe.
Don't leave messages, call until you find a company that answers their
phone during business hours.
