    All the technical data you speak of is out there. The entire os is
    completely open source. I think you may be asking more or less of a
    place to get your feet wet in understanding the os. If you're looking
    to get into the development of the os itself, I'd suggest directing
    yourself towards the development section of the freebsd site at
    http://www.freebsd.org/projects/index.html
