What now ? [second thoughts ] - 4.4->4.8 Binary upgrade has left machine broken

    Following on from previous post. During the upgrade I got to that screen
    before you see the sysinstal menu where you can reconfig the Kernel and I
    took the 'Skip Kernel Config' option - I wasn't really sure what the
    right thing to do was but I was guessing that the upgrade process would
    'learn' what it needed to from the previous setup.

    Was this the wrong thing to do ?

    Should I have dived in and done the whole kernel config thing even though
    the machine had previously been running 4.4 ?
