Try with an older CD drive. I've tried numerous times when new drives are failing me at some point of the installation.
Older slower drives works just fine. After FreeBSD is installed the new drives work just fine.
My theory is that the installation program only has primitive CD-drivers that can't cope with many new high speed drives.
Of course I know nothing about this. But older drives tend to work:)
