Patches are, in general, text-only files.
Ok I installed the patch and did the make and install according to the
instructions. How do I check to see if the patch is applied? does the
make install restart the sendmail daemon automatically?

Nope. You can do that manually though:

# cd /etc/mail
# make restart

This should take care of it.

Ok I just did the make restart. Everything is good but the version number did not change. How do I know the patch was applied? Is there some command I can use to check?
