I have another MP3 player, not an Ipod. But for me, it works to mount
/dev/da0sX instead of /dev/da0 (X is usually 1).
Sometimes it's even not enough, in my case:
# ls /dev/da1*
/dev/da1
# mount_msdosfs /dev/da1 /mnt/tmp/
mount_msdosfs: /dev/da1: : Invalid argument
# ls /dev/da1*
/dev/da1 /dev/da1s1
# mount_msdosfs /dev/da1s1 /mnt/tmp/
#
Slice one doesn't appear until you try to access da1...
