I sent a similar message a while back because I thought the ndis
driver was also involved. But I have since disabled ndis. (However when ndis is on, the problem is worse.)
Any ideas?

Have you tried the Nvidia driver from ports/x11? It works well for me on my Dell I8600.
That is what I was originally using. But that also froze. I switched to nv in hopes that the problem would go away.
