For what it's worth, I had problems writing images back to aMy two computers running FreeBSD 9 can't even fdformat the floppy. The
floppy disk at around 8.0 prerelease. Dd wrote the image ok,
but when closing the device, the machine panicked. Problem is
gone on 8.2 and 8.3 (prerelease), and I haven't tried 9 yet.
format utility runs and marks all tracks bad. If I abort the process, the
computer panics. I always fdformat a floppy before running DD because I find
that DOS fomatting of the disk does not catch all of the surface errors.
The floppy disks that were marked bad by FreeBSD 9 were successfully
formatted by my laptop that runs OpenBSD 5. I was able to successfully DD
the image from CDROM to the 'bad' floppy disk from the laptop.
