Actually, there is at least one more thing to consider. If you have your
min and max buffer cache set as variable rather than fixed, you may want to
consider either reducing max or changing it to a fixed value so you don't
wind up using way too much memory for buffer cache. This of course is done
through Sam and requires a kernel rebuild and reboot.

I've gotten several responses--thank you very much to all who did. The
bottom line is that memory really *is* simply plug-n-play. I just need to
remember to increase swap, once the new memory is installed. Some things
are surprisingly easy in systems administration after all. :)

What steps must we follow to install and configure RAM in an N4000 running
HP-UX 11.0? I presume it isn't as simple as plug-n-play, is it? I don't
need steps on installing the hardware--I just need to know any software
configuration steps. I've looked on docs.hp.com, but I don't see anything
directly relating to N4000 RAM installation.
