    *** Summary:
It looks like it was a time-out while reading the file, because I checked
all the other things suggested by Corné and Jim. But at the moment I
can't find a reason for the time-out. The strage thing is that the
application works almost all the time very well, but 2 times it crashed
last week because of the named reason.

I'm sure something has changed but you don't know...
Some of the things I think about that could have caused this problem
    include:
The routine has been called the first time. Sounds strange on a system
running without problems this long. However, I have seen it: There was a
change in operators and the new operator just did something others never
    have done.
The disk or filesystem had caused a time-out while reading the file. This
is verry hard to reproduce. Timeouts can have various reasons, a file-
    system-check (fsck) might prevent some.
The binary calling the /lib/dld.sl calls it at a different path (see
`chatr binary`) and if needed check the library search path.
The /lib/dld.sl file has been corrupted. What does `file /lib/dld.sl` or
`chatr lib/dld.sl` say on the file?

    Hi

    Looks like a corrupt file
recommend restoring the dld.sl file from tape into a temp place compare
current with the restored version using chksum. If there is a difference
    then you have acorrupt file.

Magic number is the first byte/s of the file and lets the system know
    what
type of file it is - the is a magic number file (database) can't remember
    it name or location.

Or have you added any new software rescently? If so it could have
replaced the old reference to the magic number by a new one - to confuse
    the system.
