Most people who replied indicated that yes, I could add a drive to the Jamaica enclosure without bring both systems down in a MC/SG env. Some said I could also remove a drive also but it would be best to vgreduce it out of the volume group before doing so.

If I replace a disk using the same slot as the old disk I do not need to worry about updating the lvmtab on each node as the address will not change.

Although one or two people who replied said that I should shutdown both systems most said I did not need to. A few said they had added/removed drives in a Jamaica enclosure a number of times in the past while the system is up without problem.

    Thanks!

I searched the archives but did not see what I was looking for, I may not have used the correct words.

I have an older MC/SG cluster. The shared disks are located in a Jamaica A3312A enclosures. The drives are on a shared scsi bus with inline scsi terminators connect to two K210 servers.

My question is, can I add or remove a disk drive while the two K210 are powered on? As the disks are part of a shared scsi bus, I can't just power down one system. I just need to know if I need to power down both servers or not. If this is the case this seems odd that a HA setup like this would require downtime to add disks.

    Thanks,

    - Justin
