As I had thought and hopped, MC/SG does not monitor the file systems that it mounts unless you specifically set this up. This can be done by configuring a filesystem as a resource and having MC/SG monitor it.

I was able to unmount the unused filesystem and lvreduce it, I then went ahead and did a mkfs on the LV that I reduced. I then did a lvextend and fsadm -F vxfs -b [num here] /mount/point to increase the size of the file system I need to add more space to.

Some asked what error I received with the fsadm command. I don't have the exact message (I did not right it down) but it said something about inode in use, however there were no files in use and I did run fuser to check. I just tried it again and I was able to reduce the file system down online after already resizing it with it unmounted. At any rate I was able to accomplish what I needed.

    Thanks to all who replied!

    Hi All,

I want to reduce a MC/SG LV/FS and I have OnlineJFS. I can't seem to reduce the filesystem/LV while it's mounted. The filesystem I want to reduce does not have any data on it that needs to be saved or preserved.

What I need to know is, can I unmount a filesystem that MC/SG mounted without MC/SG freaking out? If so then I know I can reduce it. If MC/SG is going to start a fail-over because a filesystem is unmounted then I can't do it this way.

Does MC/SG monitor filesystems that is mounts and being a fail-over if they are unmounted?

    Thanks!

    - Justin
