    Hello admins,

Have a strange problem. I have 4 HPUX 11.0 boxes that have this error
    in syslog.log:

    Oct 22 05:56:35 ausdir syslog: gethostbyaddr: localhost. != 127.0.0.1

On this particular machine, the errors started at 6am on 10/7 and didn't
stop until the next Tuesday, 10/14 at 6am. Then a week later, on 10/21
it started at 6am and continued for 24 hours, then stopped today at
6am. I'm not sure about the timing of the other boxes, but I know all
the errors started at exactly the same time, about a month ago.

I can resolve localhost just fine (it's 127.0.0.1 in DNS) but I cannot
resolve "localhost." of course. My resolv.conf:
    domain austin.ppdi.com
    nameserver 172.30.100.10
    nameserver 172.30.51.10

    My /etc/hosts:
    172.30.100.222 ausdir.austin.ppdi.com ausdir
    127.0.0.1 localhost loopback

The /etc/nss* files on this box are exactly the same as another box that
    does not have this problem.

What's confusing is I can't find a common tie to all of these systems.
3 are Oracle boxes (where DBAs do work) but one (the above in question)
is my mail server. I'm the only admin who works on that box. There are
no cron jobs running at these times and no particular scripts either. I
also have 5 other HPUX machines that do not exhibit this behavior, and
they're configured almost identical to the machines that do have the
    problem.

    Any ideas?

    TIA,

    Daniel
