    Dear All,
      Thanks for all the replies. There was some special characters in the direcotry name. After using the wild character * at start and end of direcotry name , i am able to remove the directory.

            Dear All,
                I have faced a strange problem today. I have removed one direcotry, but it still shows the listing in ll.
            But if i do the listing with command 'll filename" , then it does not lists.
            What could be the reason.
             
            The output of system is
            host> ll
            total 135504
            drwxr-xr-x 2 ict ict 96 May 5 2003 alca_jan03
            drwxr-xr-x 2 ict ict 8192 Jan 20 21:48 IMP_EXP
            
            host> rm -rf alca_jan03
            host>ll
            total 135504
            drwxr-xr-x 2 ict ict 96 May 5 2003 alca_jan03
            drwxr-xr-x 2 ict ict 8192 Jan 20 21:48 IMP_EXP
            host> ls -l alca_jan03
            alca_jan03 not found
