    I'm grateful for the responses. It appears that there are a number of
    options available to me. They fall into 4 general categories.

    1. Paul Sweeney's experience shows us that tar is still our friend.

    2. There are various sources for downloading that I either didn't find or
    didn't know about.

    Dave 'you didn't hear it from me' Totsch:
    ftp://contrib:9unsupp8@hprc.external.hp.com/jetadmin/

    Bill Beardshaw and Peter Van Eck provided the same link. Peter Van Eck said
    that Jetabmin had been renamed Jet Direct and was essentially hpnp.

    n_US&pnameOID=18922&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=27349&lang=en&c
    c=us

     as a secondary source, ftp it from /pub/networking/software from ftp.hp.com

    3. Dave Johnson had an existing depot for E.10.18 and 11.X that he was
    willing to make available.

    4. Bill Hassell highly recommended going to Jetadmin's replacement, HPPI.
    (this maybe the same software Bill and Peter suggested)Citing Jetadmins lack
    of support, known Y2K errors, and slowness as reasons. One big plus of HPPI
    is its support for newer printers. Jetadmin doesn't recognize any new
    printers since 1999.

    Bill also suggested using the command line commands of addqueue,
    removequeue, and modifyqueue. These are common to both Jetadmin and HPPI;
    and used from the command line, they are substantially faster than using
    either interface or SAM.
