    What are you guys talking about!!!
    One your machine has to be in single user mode!!
    You should also reboot to single user mode.
    Then make your slices and mirror them and reboot -- All done!!

    Ah the wonderful / size problem. The reason you are having issues that
    is that the OS is running. Since it is up, then the filesystem will be
    busy. The only way to resize it is to have the system down. But if the
    system is down, you cannot resize it... It is a catch-22. The same
    goes for /stand.

    From my experience, you have a few options (no inclusive).

    1. Create mount points for other areas that are off / now. A good
    example would be /var/adm/sw, /var/opt/perf/datafiles, or any other
    large directory. This was what had to be done on old servers here as
    all space was allocated to /.

    2. Use Ignite to either do a make_tape_recovery or a golden image. Make
    sure that all software (Oracle, Sybase, etc) are unmounted. Take a full
    system backup in case there are unforseen problems. Once both steps are
    done, boot off the Ignite image. When it boots, you can change the file
    space and then continue the Ignite. This is what has to be done in a
    past life to fix /stand as it was not sized for future growth.
     
    The Ignite option works like a charm but you must be intimately familiar
    with your system. Also you need to make sure that you have a good
    bootable method for the restore. If you are at 10G on / now (or will
    soon be), then I suggest you store the image on an Ignite server. This
    is what I use for all of my various VPARs. I can boot over the network
    and reload the OS to the golden image without problems and then restore
    from tape any files that are out of date.

    When trying to increase the size of the root file system with SAM or
    lvextend -L 10240 /dev/vg00/logicalvolume, I get an error telling that
    the device is busy or being used. After issuing the fuser -ku /
    command, which should kill all the processes on /, I'm still not able to

    umount / and increase the size of the filesystem. I'm updating the
    patches for an HP-UX 11.0 installation.
