Thanks to Timothy Reed and Kevin O'Donovan who both suggested the following:

    Timothy Reed:
I've seen this type of problem when the home directory was on an NFS
mounted file system. We had problems with NFS in 10.20.

    Kevin O'Donovan:
I've seen unresponsive NFS mounts cause this before, are you using NFS?

We do use NFS on this system and have /home on an NFS mount. I stopped and started the nfs.client and now it works. Again thanks for the help.

Subject: [HPADM] telnet Hangs after login

    Hello All,

I have a K370 running hp-ux 11.00. Yesterday we had a bad mirrored root volume group disk replace. I was able to do the vgsync and the system booted up fine. Up until this maintenance on the disk elnet from any system to this K370 without any problems. This morning I found that I can telnet from any type system to this K370 and I get a login. Once I login it displays all the copyright information and then just hangs at the following point:

    $ telnet saturn
    Trying...
    Connected to saturn.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    Local flow control on
    Telnet TERMINAL-SPEED option ON

I can do a "CNTL ]" and get to the telnet prompt and type quit to disconnect. After a couple of minutes I see the following error in syslog.log

Aug 3 10:23:21 saturn telnetd[25339]: Error checking child termination status:
    error 4: Interrupted system call

I can rlogin and ftp to this system without any problems. Any ideas what could be causing this?

    Thanks,
