    One of the gateway is connected to a high speed link, and the default is a slow speed link. I cannot give all machines to follow the high speed link.

    So connecting the way you describe will disturb this situation.

          not sure this can be done unless your primary route supports some of the gateway protocols (igrp etc) and you configure your host to listed to such protocols and change the routing table accordingly.

      I remember setting up gated on HP-UX to do this some time ago but it wasn't without its problems.
      In the end Networks set up a system where we had only one default gateway IP and that IP address would be served by any available routers on the network.

        Hello,

        I have a problem in which I have to reach a machine say. B(IP 198.180.27.116) from say. A(IP 164.164.27.205)

        Now there is a route entry in routing table as follows

        Destination 198.180.27.0 will be routed through 164.164.27.111

        and there is default which is 164.164.27.45

        Now What I want is, if my 164.164.27.111 is down the I want to route 198.180.27.0 traffic through default, which is not happening.

        Any suggestions..
