[HPADM] java too many open files

I am having bit trouble with my java appliaction (
1.4)

initially it started giving error with "unable to open
file " and we bumped maxfiles . Now we are not getting
this error but it open files are growing at 300 files
/ day ( using lsof to find this ) .

How do we find why java is not closing files and how
do we fix it ?

Also lsof output has ebtried like
java 5528 psftb811 29r FIFO 0x1863d4b08 0t0
1657776
I think these are the entires for open file . Last
filed is suppose to be for inode . I did a search for
this inode in the file systems and could not find any
.
Any help
