SUMMARY: CDE desktop on VNC viewer

    To summarize. I did the following

    In the user home directory there is a directory called .vnc

    This contains a startupscript (xstartup) which is run when you start
    vncserver as that user.

    If you put something like the following in xstartup it will start CDE.

    #!/bin/sh
    xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
    /usr/dt/bin/dtwm &

    Then I ran the vnc and it worked fine. Many thanks for all you help
