    thank you very much for your kind help it REALLY worked ! :-))

    (Of course thanks to all others,too, who replied me very soon).

    Here is, what I did:

    First, I closed the telnet session, and powered off the host.
    Then powered on the server and connected to the machine via telnet server.
    During boot messages appeared on the screen I typed

    send break

    I immediately got the ok-prompt.

    One can look what kind of notation it is simply with

    telnet> send ?

    you get a list of all commands,

    After your help to find this out was very easy!

    The only think you have to understand is the type of connection via terminal
    server
    and which command forces the local machine the remote machine and the terminal
    server :-)

    Escape to the terminal server and do "snd brk" or some such.

    (Possible escaping to your telnet client and do "snd brk" might
    work also)

    It all varies on the terminal server; but it's the terminal server
    which needs to send a break.
