    Hi,
I'd like to thank everybody who replied, your suggestions were
    extremely helpful.

These are solaris tools that you can run locally on the workstation:
    sar
    sdtperfmeter

    These are some other tools
    MRTG http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/
    Big Brother http://bb4.com/
    Nagios http://www.nagios.org

A lot of people suggested this tool:
    http://www.orcaware.com/orca/
    which requires this:
    http://www.setoolkit.com

I'm going to give nagios a try. Thanks for the help guys,
    Declan.
