SUMMARY : DNS / TCP-IP related Problem on Solaris 8

    Hello,

    Thanks to all who replied (too many to mention but special thanks to
    Johnny Chang).... successful resolution of the problem involved :

    (i) Modification of the file /etc/nsswitch.conf to include the line

    hosts: dns files

    (ii) Addition of the IP addresses and names of servers in the
    /etc/resolv.conf file to the /etc/hosts file

    (iii) Rebooting the machine to pick up the IP address in the
    /etc/defaultrouter file which had been added since the previous reboot.
