    Right -- so -- turns out I was in the right place after all, just
    focusing on the wrong things...

    lesson 1) don't let your intern handle the /var/yp/securenets
    entries...
    lesson 2) check your /var/yp/securenets entries after a significant
    network change...

    <sigh>

    I didn't get any responses -- but the information I gave wouldn't have
    led anyone there --
