    Thanks for the fast help all:
    consensus is that directory permissions seem to be problem, BUT
    /, /etc. /etc/mail are all 755 permissions, as well as
    /etc/mail/local-host-names' which is 444
    but I also get this on ONE machine (humming)
    ay 30 15:35:45 hummming.att.com sendmail[16875]: NOQUEUE: 0: fl=0x0,
    mode=100600: size=230
    May 30 15:35:45 hummming.att.com sendmail[16875]: NOQUEUE: 1: fl=0x2,
    mode=100600: size=117
    May 30 15:35:45 hummming.att.com sendmail[16875]: NOQUEUE: 2: fl=0x1,
    mode=20666: CHR: size=0

    So what the heck is this telling me?

    --I asked--

    I'm having some pain from my sendmail configuration again...

    and I'm getting mail error messages too.

    BUT the systems seem to be sending mail again...
