    Hi,

I am trying to install some network printers using the Sun Management
Console 2.1 on Solaris 9. I have tried installing Lexmarks Markvision
Software (and drivers) and HP's hpnpl software but both I am having trouble
with (we have HP, Lexmark and Tektronix printers which are all TCP
printers). At the moment Lexmarks software won't allow me to remove the
queues I initally created so I can't start from scratch (but that is a
    separate issue).

    I have downloaded and installed j2re1.4.1_03, j2re1_3_1_08, java1.2 and
j2se (not sure what version). All of those are in my path (and I have tried
various different orders). I have set JAVA_HOME to different values
    including /usr/j2re1.4.1_03, /usr/j2re1.4.1_03/bin, /usr/j2re1_3_1_08,
    /usr/j2re1_3_1_08/bin, /usr/j2se, /usr/j2se/jre.

I set my DISPLAY to a PC running Xwin and type smc& to run smc and I get
    the following error.

No suitable Java runtime found in any of the following directories:
             /usr/j2se/jre /usr/j2re1.4.1_03/bin /usr/j2se
Please set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to a Java 2
    installation and run /usr/sadm/lib/smc/bin/smc again.

If anyone knows what version of j2re I am supposed to have installed or how
I can get smc to recognise it, or even point me to somewhere that outlines
how the hell to get some form of printing to TCP working properly that
    would be great.

I apologise in advance if there is some documentation somewhere that I
missed but I have been looking around for ages now.

    Thanks,
    Kelly.
