    Hi Everybody,

can you help me concerning following problem:

I want to remote backup with tar or dump from linux to solaris box?

    When trying " tar cvf remotehost:/dev/rmt/0 /"

I get the error message: " Cannot open: input/output error.... tar: error ist
    recoverable: exiting now"

I think it's a problem on the solaris side.

I created a ".rhosts" file on both servers and removed the "#" from rsh line
in /etc/inetd.conf because tar (and dump?) are connecting via rsh. After this
    I restarted inetd.

I also checked /etc/hosts and hosts.equiv (there are no hosts.deny or
hosts.allow files): the localhost from which I am trying to connect is listed,
I also added its IP - address.

    No success!

    Thank in Advance
