routing from a specific interface

I have a dual-homed machine running Solaris 8. Each interface is up on
it's own network segment. I need to get traffic that originates on the
second interface (hme1) to go to the router that is on the same segment.
So far it appears not to work correctly, with traffic routing through to
the router on the other interface. It does appear to work
sporadically. I currently have two default routes on the system,
pointing at each router.
I've seen a couple of references while Google'ing around that imply
(strongly) that while Solaris does support multiple default routes, it
does so in a quasi-braindead fashion of round-robining between routes.
Anyone know if that's true?
And if it's true, is there a way to specify that traffic on an interface
must be routed to a specific gateway address?
Thanks in advance for any insight.
